It’s been 10 years and we are still at it! 2017 marks the 10th Anniversary of Stomp Out Breast Cancer, the walking event held annually in October to celebrate the end of Tennessee’s grape harvest while also helping to raise funds/awareness for the American Cancer Society.
It all started when Christine Kimmins, the first Wine Club Manager at Mountain Valley Winery, had the idea of producing a “Pink” wine from the red/white Muscadine grapes that always Harold the end of harvest in East TN. She and winemaker Doug Seitz then decided to pair this Pink wine with the local Sevier County Relay for Life chapter and donate $5 per bottle for every bottle sold. Now, 10 years later, owner Don Collier and the wineries along the Rocky Top Wine Trail have donated well over $100,000 from the purchase of Pink wines to help fund research and raise awareness for breast cancer.
Bringing it Back Home
This year we are bringing the event home to Mountain Valley Winery! Our walk will start at Mountain Valley Winery, weave down to Apple Barn Winery for some apple bobbing and wine tasting, and then take us to Hillside Winery for the actual grape stomping! Once we’ve all turned our feet purple and done our best impression of I Love Lucy stomping on grapes, we’ll then head back to Mountain Valley Winery for a well-deserved BBQ lunch, courtesy of Corky’s BBQ. The three “Pink” wines this year will be: Strawberry Blush at Mountain Valley Winery, Red/White Muscadine at Apple Barn Winery, and a delicious sparkling Apple Cranberry wine at Hillside Winery!
